Bag-and-Bun was named after two flagships: Bag and Bun and The Anglo-Norman Landing, “Where Ireland was lost and won.”

The Martello Tower was built long after, in the early 1800s. Thirty-nine were built around Ireland to defend against a possible Napoleonic invasion.
